What Some of Our Alumni Have to Say
Here are some things that past Global PACT participants have taken away from their experiences:
- Kristina - Global PACT Croatia 2006:
“What I have to share
with you, however, is that the training is a real life changing experience.
First, it is an event at which students from so many countries both work and
have fun together. I myself had had even more intercultural experiences. This,
however, was the first time when I had to do some actual work with people from
4 different countries. And we were teammates for 3 weeks! Sometimes it was
really hard and I guess it might be even harder for those of you who have not
done such a thing before. But don’t think cultural shock is all about being
confused. It’s mostly about learning…and having fun!”

- Dan - Global PACT Thailand 2007:
“Each Global PACT session is very different from the next…I have been placed in a group with one other American, one girl from Thailand, and two girls from Myanmar …There are difficulties such a language barriers, but we are making efforts to learn each others language, which is extremely fun.”
- Greg - Global PACT Thailand 2007:
“Since our initial
proposal, we’ve come a long way, and even started training some of the [MYN
members] to film around town – today we had a major breakthrough in a personal
interview with a young girl who was trafficked from Bangkok…
I am honored to be
working with such strong, determined young women who want to change the world
starting in their own communities, even if it means risking their own lives.
They’ve certainly taught me more about life than they know, and we grow closer
every day."
Erin - Global PACT South Africa 2007:
“Although a lot is now up to the [Rhodes University
students] since they are located in South Africa, we are still very much a part
of the program,” said Smyth, a senior nursing major. “We communicate with the
other students every day via Internet. We always make decisions as a group and
do everything we can from abroad.”
- Madison - Global PACT South Africa 2007
“[The program was]
easily the most rewarding experience of my life. In three short weeks we
managed to accomplish so much…from conjuring up the project idea to securing partnerships
throughout Grahamstown with businesses that are willing to support us.”
