The Global PACT Internship is unique training opportunity to learn the theory and practice of community development under the supervision of Global PACT founder and Rutgers professor, D. Michael Shafer. Global PACT has partnered with a "first-of-its-kind" non-profit organization - Warm Heart Worldwide. Warm Heart is sets itself apart from other NGOs because it is self-sustaining, accepting donations as investments. Physically, it is a plot of land in a mountainous region in Northern Thailand. Warm Heart also has offices in the "oh-bo-tah" or regional government offices for Phrao where employees support the administrative side of the organization. Founded in July 2008, Warm Heart now operates two Children's Homes for the children of a Keran mountain village, an after school and Saturday school for 150 children, a microenterprise program that now retails $2,500 worth of local products in the US monthly, and an emergency "clinic-in-the-Clouds" serving an Akha mountain village.

Warm Heart is looking for independent and self-motivated individuals to act as project leaders. Interested persons should come prepared to develop their own project ideas after a personal assessment of Warm Heart, and should certainly not expect to continually be given instructions. Implementation of a project requires an organization, so during the entire program you will be building the team which will be the engine of your ideas for change. There is no other way to learn how to build an effective team other than doing it. Participants will have to communicate, make decisions, and achieve a goal together with a diverse group of people.
