Featured Project

Global PACT South Africa 2009 project "Galela Amanzi" or "Pour the Water" has been awarded the Rhodes University student project of the year prize. Galela Amanzi addresses the lack of water in Grahamstown townships by setting up rain harvesting tanks in strategic locations. The group's pilot project provided the Andrew Moyake Primary School a 5,000 liter rain water tank that permitted the school to stay open.

Global Citizen Programs

Global PACT's intensive, one month summer training program is an interactive workshop that will teach you the practical skills necessary to design and implement community-development projects anywhere in the world. Sign up now for Summer 2010 programs in South Africa and Thailand.

Internships, Gap Years and Volunteering

Don’t just talk about changing someone’s life any more; do it! Global PACT will place you with a carefully screened organization where you will work on real projects that produce real results for real people with real needs. Work with children, get your hands dirty harvesting fish or tending silk worms, teach English to district staff, help nurses run a village diabetes screening, develop a marketing program for the local microenterprise project. Learn something new yourself. Use your professional skills where they matter most. The opportunities are endless. Placements are available year around, and Global PACT partners are especially interested in older volunteers. See what you can do.

Accomplish Something!

Global PACT programs do not “show” you the world or “introduce” you to global issues. In Global PACT internships you do not “shadow” professionals in air conditioned offices.

Global PACT is about doing. Global PACT summer programs are total immersion, cross-cultural intensives that team you with a small group of people from the community where you are working. Together you have to solve a local problem. It is not an exercise; there is no known answer. You have four weeks. Your final exam? Conduct a demonstration project and hold a press conference for the national press. Really.

There are Global PACT projects running in every community where we have worked. Watch the Galela Amanzi video, and check out it and other program projects at Training Projects.

And Global PACT internships? Here’s a good example. The local HIV/AIDS community asked one Global PACT partner organization how to deal with a delicate problem. With anti-retroviral drugs, HIV+ children are surviving into adolescence. Like all adolescents, they are discovering sex – but are afraid to tell their partners that they are HIV+ for fear that they will be “outed” in a community that shuns the HIV+. What to do? Assign the task of developing a program for the local HIV+ teens to Global PACT volunteers.

Project Positive is just one of many such success stories. To read about it and others, check out Volunteer Projects.

We Are Global PACT

We are an educational organization that also provides human resources to grassroots development nonprofits in poor communities. Through our educational and internship programs we are training a new global citizenry of individuals for whom the global is actually the local and the local is actually the global. Global PACT fellows are attuned to human needs at home and abroad, and possess the skills to make change when change is necessary. The Global PACT network now includes over one thousand members from more the fifty different countries on every continent of the world.

Is Global PACT for You?

Global PACT is not for everyone. Is it right for you?

If you aren’t satisfied with seeing the just surface of things, but want to dig down to causes; Global PACT is for you. If you aren’t satisfied with academic or journalistic explanations of how the other 90 percent lives, but want to grapple personally with the real issues, Global PACT is for you. If you think you have something to give others, but know that you lack the knowledge and skills necessary to be an effective change maker, Global PACT is for you. If you are tired of people who just talk-talk about the state of the world – or are tired of hearing yourself just talk about it – and want to accomplish something real, Global PACT is for you.
